Steel Shipping Containers

Start With A Box. Then Anything Is Possible.

Ceardean Architects Became The (Kind Of) 'Unofficial' Container Experts In Ireland Following A Number Of Exciting Container Projects in Recent Years.

And We're Very Proud Of Our Involvement In Those Projects. Some Of Which Were Voluntary Initiatives Intended To House Families In Need Of Homes. And Still Do Today.

What's Most Important To Know, However, Is That There's Nothing Simple Or Straight-forward about These Buildings. All Of The Same Rules Apply, and, in Fact, Expert Design & Material Knowledge Is Required To Deal With Structures Not Made For Living & Working Comfortably. Living In Shipping Containers Is Often Reserved For Those Who Are Passionate About Doing Something Different, and Willing To Fight Through The Many Obstacles Thrown Up.

And That's Kind Of Why We Love Them. Nothing Easy About It. But The Reward? Well, Something Very Cool.

Leisure Pursuit Complex That Breaks Design Barriers!

Developing A Strategic Masterplan Is An Often Overlooked But Critical Piece Of Early Design Work That Sets A Ball Rolling In A Certain Direction.

Here Ceardean Worked Closely WIth Both Hotel Owners And Leisure Pursuit Specialists To Transform A Green Space Into Something Outstanding Both In Appearance, Use And Complexity.

Ceardean Created A Unified Version Of Stakeholder Aspirations By Means Of Using Containers Like Lego Bricks To Achieve The Height Required To Allow Crazy People To Safely Have Loads Of Fun - The Whole Point Of This Venture!

We Were Particularly Proud Of This One. The Result Was Amazing (Even If We Say So Ourselves)!

The Ripple Project

Ceardean Architects were delighted to lead the Ripple Team to achieve the conversion of a 40ft Shipping Container into an Emergency Home Unit for SVDP in 3 days at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in November 2014.

We would like to thank all the sponsors who donated their time, materials and labour to realise this project. We hence complete this project by passing the information of how we built this home as part of a Free E-Book.

If you find the information useful we kindly ask you to consider a contribution to SVDP in honour of the Ripple Team.

The Sleeping Pod Container Home

A new solution to the homeless crisis is being built in just under 4 weeks for €20,000. The converted 20ft container will accommodate one person as a mobile sleeping pod with ensuite that can be located around the country at short notice.

The project has been designed by Ceardean Architects who previously designed the “Ripple Container Home” a two bed unit made from a 40ft Container which was donated last year to SVDP and is now in use as an emergency housing unit.

Colaiste Dhulaigh College of Further Education Raheny (CDCFE) are building the project as part of their Education Programme integrating Interior Design, Renewable Energy and Sustainable Construction, Architecture Design and Technology, Graphic Design and Media Departments. CDCFE will prepare a free e-book illustrating the project and it is intended that they will continue to construct a sleeping pod each year.

The construction of the project over the following weeks can be followed on facebook “Container Build”. The project are actively seeking a charity to host the new sleeping pod.

Speaking about the project, Mr Trenaman of Ceardean Architects said:

“This project is about making a low cost solution to getting people off the street and empowering them with some privacy and space to rebuild their lives”
